Questions & answers
My Instagram account was hacked. What do I do first?
Protect the email account linked to Instagram (new password and 2-step verification), then look in that inbox for Instagram's "your email was changed" message. It often has a link to undo the change. Then use Instagram's official page, instagram.com/hacked, from a phone you've used before. Our free quiz gives you the exact order for your case.
Facebook disabled my account and there's no human support. What can I do?
Log in and look for the option to disagree with the decision or request a review. Facebook says you can appeal a suspension within 180 days; after that, or after a failed appeal, the account is permanently disabled. Write a calm, specific appeal (we write one for you), and use Meta's AI support assistant in the Help Center. Some people also use Meta Verified to reach support. Results vary.
Can GotItBack get my account back for me?
No, and nobody honest can promise that. Only Meta can restore an account. GotItBack gives you the right official steps for your situation, a well-written appeal letter, a day-by-day plan, and what to do with each reply. You do the steps yourself, on Meta's own pages.
Are you part of Meta, Instagram or Facebook?
No. GotItBack is an independent guide. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Meta Platforms, Instagram or Facebook. Every link in your plan goes to Meta's own website.
Will you ask for my password or login codes?
Never. Nobody needs your password to help you, and anyone who asks for it (or for a login code) is trying to take your account. Our quiz only asks what happened and what you still have.
What about "recovery hackers" who say they can get my account back?
Don't pay them. People who DM, comment or advertise "account recovery" are very often scammers. They take the money and disappear, or take your account again. Only Meta can restore an account, through its own pages.
How long does Meta take to answer?
It varies a lot, from minutes (an email code) to days or weeks (a review or an identity check), and sometimes there is no reply. That's why your plan has a day-by-day checklist: what to do on day 1, 3, 7, 14 and 30.
What is the video selfie, and is it safe?
Instagram sometimes asks for a short video selfie to compare with photos on your account. It only works if the account has clear photos of your face. Do it only inside Instagram's own flow, never for someone who messaged you. Instagram explains it here: help.instagram.com/1053588012132894.
The hacker changed my email and phone number. Is it over?
No. Meta has routes for exactly this: the "I can't access this email or phone" option, a video selfie on Instagram, or an ID check on Facebook. Your plan tells you which one applies.
What does the $29 include? What is Guard?
The free preview shows your first steps. $29 (one time) unlocks the full plan for your case: every step, your appeal letter (full and short), the day-by-day checklist with reminders, what to do for each Meta reply, and the lock-down checklist. Guard is optional at $5/month: a monthly security check-up reminder so it doesn't happen again. Cancel any time.
What if it doesn't help?
Ask for your money back within 30 days. See our refund policy.
Is my information private?
Your answers and your letter stay in your own browser on your own device. We don't have accounts, we don't store your answers on a server, and we don't use ad trackers.
